Marteloscope Application for the National Forests Office (ONF)
“Martelage” (Tree marking) is the process of designating specific trees to be felled based on a set of silvicultural criteria. To identify them, the forester marks the trees using the official ONF punch.
To assist future generations of foresters and those interested in silviculture, this application enables users to perform a virtual tree-marking exercise by scanning QR codes attached to trees.
The forest plots and individual trees are managed via a back-office system, where marking scenarios and training sessions are also configured. Using the mobile application, users can navigate a plot and decide whether to fell or preserve trees by scanning their unique QR codes.
Mobile Application Features:
- Session login for tree-marking exercises.
- Interactive map view of the forest plot to be navigated.
- QR code scanning to mark trees, followed by an instant display of detailed silvicultural information.
- Results dashboard displayed upon completion of the plot exercise.
Back-office Features:
- Forest plot management (list, add, edit, delete) with geographic boundary entry and visual mapping via Google Maps integration.
- Tree inventory management (list, add, edit, delete) with precise latitude/longitude positioning and QR code assignment.
- Scenario management (list, add, edit, delete) based on complexity levels and specific training session parameters.
Our Role in this Project:
- Scoping of the project’s functional requirements.
- Android Application Design: UI/UX presentation via Invision for client feedback and validation.
- Native mobile development for Android (Java).
- Development of the back-office system and API.
